Ullswater Water Weekend – Camping at Side Farm, Patterdale |
|
With problems booking the Windermere venue again this year, the paddlers moved over to Side Farm on the shores of Ullswater for a very enjoyable weekend of paddling on the lake and walking on the fells. Right shows the centre of the club group early on Friday evening.

The Cross Bay Walk wasn't an 'official' Fellfarer event, but nevertheless eight members took part. Helen Speed and husband, plus Max the dog, and Alec Reynolds were walking for Cumbria Wildlife Trust. Ruth Joyce was walking for Money for Madagascar, whilst Mel and Chris Middleton along with Angie Mitchell and Hugh Taylor were signed in with Bendrigg Lodge. All enjoyed the walk from Arnside to Kents Bank that lasted around four hours. |

Below shows the Queens Guide Cedric Robinson, in the red cap, striding out at the front of the group. | The walk routinely attracts around 400-500 people, and this shot shows some of them leaving White Creek Bay. |
Members will be sad to learn of the death of John Allcock. A senior manager at K Shoes, he and his wife Mary were very active in the outdoors. John completed the TGO Scottish self supported Coast-to-Coast challenge fifteen times, five of these with Mary. A Thanksgiving Service for John’s life was held at St. Catherine’s Church, Crook on Saturday 13th July 2013 at 11.30am followed by refreshments and “chat” at Crook Memorial Hall. | |
Mid-Week Walk -
Circuit of Devoke Water 22 members and guests |
|
In the third week of the heat wave, things were getting slightly cooler as 22 members and guests turned up for the circuit of Devoke Water that Colin and Val had organised. After visiting the summits of Rough Crag and Water Crag, lunch was had on the summit of White Pike. Yoadcastle and Woodend Height were visited next, prior to the long drop down to Devoke Water and a rest by the water, with no one venturing in the water. The lovely little top of Seat How concluded a fine walk. Below is the group at the start of the walk. From left to right -Mick, Joan, Tony, Margaret, Sue (behind), Mary, ? (in front), Frank, ? (in front), Graham, Colin, David, Irene, Sam (behind), Val H, Clare, Les (behind), Ellie, Val C, Norman, and Roger. |
